Driving to Nozawaonsen during the winter high season can be challenging. Heavy snow can lead to highway closures or getting stuck on the road, making the drive tough. If you rent a car, please be sure to choose a four-wheel drive vehicle equipped with winter tires with good grip.
As most of our international guests do, we always recommend using Shinkansen and bus for a safer and easier option (riding a Shinkansen itself can be enjoyable!). Nozawaonsen is a compact village, so everything is within walking distance, and a car isn’t really necessary.
